Diamond Edge Figure Skating Club
Little Rock, Arkansas
|
 |
DEFSC exists to encourage ice skating as a sport, whether
recreational or competitive, for all persons and to take necessary steps to promote such
throughout Central Arkansas and the Mid-South Region.
The Diamond Edge Figure Skating Club (DEFSC) was incorporated in
1984. It is a member club of the United States Figure Skating Association (USFS) which in
turn is a member of the International Skating Union. The purpose of DEFSC is to foster
regional, national and international figure skating and to take all steps necessary to
promote amateur figure skating on ice throughout Central Arkansas and the mid-South
Region. DEFSC is in the Southwestern Region and the Mid-Western Section divisions for
USFS. The DEFSC is a not-for-profit organization and contributions made to the
organization are tax-deductible as prescribed by law.
DEFSC is governed by a Board Of Directors which is elected each
year by the membership at its annual meeting and awards banquet. The Board meets on the
first Monday of each month and members are welcome to participate. Other activities of the
club are handled by standing or ad hoc committees. Club members are expected to
participate in the clubs varied activities.
DEFSC club members are USFS officials, committee members,
coaches, competitors, recreational skaters, and parents. We
have something to offer everyone.
For the competitive skater, as a member club of the USFS, DEFSC is where the
competitive skating track begins. One can start with competing at the Basic Skills level.
As each skater progresses, there are USFS tests and competitions at each level to mark
progression. At the Southwestern Regionals, skaters who place in the top four positions in
Juvenile and Intermediate levels go immediately to Junior Nationals. Upper level
competition begins at the Novice level. Skaters placing in the top four positions at
Regionals in Novice, Junior and Senior levels compete at the Midwestern Sectionals. From
there, the top four skaters in each category progress to Nationals.
For the recreational skater, the club offers opportunities for education, fun and
social skating with other club members and their families.
Whether you skate for fun or seriously pursue the top skating level, there is something
for you in DEFSC.
