DEFSC Skater Competed
at Skate Tulsa
DEFSC Skater, Madeleine Rickert, competed at Skate Tulsa, July 23rd -
25th. This was Madeleine's first U.S. Figure Skating competition, and she did
extremely well in crowded events. This year she competed at the
intermediate level, a very demanding and competitive level. Placing 7th in
Intermediate Ladies Short and 6th in Intermediate
Ladies Freeskate qualified Madeleine for the
Championship Intermediate Ladies event. In the Championship event, Madeleine
placed 11th in the short but moved up to 10th in the long, placing 11th overall.
Madeleine stated that she learned a lot at the competition and was looking
forward to working with her coaches, Lech and Amanda, on beefing up her
programs. She plans on competing in Houston over Labor Day weekend and regionals
in October. Congratulations Madeleine on your achievements.
Moving On Up
DEFSC president, Devon Beck, recently received his bronze dance test
judge appointment. This allows him to judge dances up through the pre-silver
level. Currently, our two local U.S. Figure
Skating judges, Devon Beck and Sandy Bowen, are silver singles/pair test
judges and bronze dance test judges. They can both
judge up through the novice level in singles and pairs and through the
pre-silver dance tests. Sandy currently has her application in for her
silver dance test judge appointment which would allow her to judge dances up to
the pre-gold level. We appreciate the effort, time,
and money these two members have sacrificed to help the club by receiving these
appointments.
August DEFSC Board of Directors Meeting
The August board meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 17th at 6 P.M.
Meetings are held in the ballet room at the Arkansas Skatium. All members are
invited to attend.
2005 Southwestern Regionals
2005 Southwestern Regionals will be held October 12-16 in Wichita, Kansas.
The Wichita Figure Skating Club will be hosting
this event. Deadline for registration is September
1st. You have two options to enter regionals. You can download a paper entry
from either http://www.wichitafsc.org
or
http://www.usfigureskating.org. This must be filled out and postmarked no
later than September 1st. The other option is new this year and is the preferred
method by U.S. Figure Skating. This new option is
electronic entries. Simply go to the U.S. Figure Skating website
(http://www.usfigureskating.org)
and click on MEMBERS ONLY. A password is necessary to use the MEMBERS
ONLY site. If you do not already have your password,
click on MEMBERS ONLY from the U.S. Figure Skating
Home Page and find the link "Request Password". Follow online instructions for
obtaining your password. It can take up to two business days to get your
password - so plan ahead! For the purpose of Electronic Entry, the time
zone of your home club (central standard time) will
determine the entry deadline of midnight, September 1st. This is the easier of
the two for entering regionals. In the Electronic
Entry method, you will have to pay your entry fees by credit card. The U.S.
Figure Skating Team prefers VISA, but other options are available.
There will also be a non-qualifying competition held in Wichita at the same
time. If you are not going to compete at regionals, you might consider the
non-qualifying competition. There will be pre-juvenile, open
pre-juvenile, and open juvenile events held. Same deadline as regionals.
Electronic entries are not available for these events.
You can download forms at the Wichita website (listed
above).
Please let a board member know if you are competing at regionals.
Competitors assistance is available for full
club members competing at regionals. Competitors
assistance for regionals will be $150.
Note to coaches: You must be a member of USFSA and PSA to received
credentials for any qualifying competition (regionals, sectionals, and
nationals). Membership forms for PSA can be obtained on the PSA website at
http://www.skatepsa.org.
DEFSC will have an exhibition of DEFSC regional competitors during club ice
later in the month of September. Date to be announced.
